CHERYL FRANCES-HOAD

Cheryl’s music has been described as “like a declaration of faith in the eternal verities of composition” (The Sunday Times), with “a voice overflowing not only with ideas but also with the discipline and artistry necessary to harness them” (The Scotsman). Her works have garnered many awards, such as:

Cheryl’s works include two piano concertos, a Cello Concerto, three piano trios, a ninety-minute opera, and several large scales works involving young musicians (A Young Person’s Guide to Composition was premiered by the London Chamber Orchestra and 150 children conducted by Christopher Warren Green in May 2014). 2015 saw Cheryl’s BBC Proms debut with a new work for the Cardinall’s Musick entitled From the Beginning of the World.

Her music is published by Chester Music Limited, part of Wise Music Group.

As both conductor and composer, Hefti has worked with numerous orchestras and ensembles including the Zurich Tonhalle Orchestra, the Bavarian State Orchestra, the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin, the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal, the Tokyo Sinfonietta, the Ensemble Modern etc. His orchestral works have been performed by Eötvös, Nagano, Sanderling, Zinman etc. He has been invited to music festivals including Wien Modern, Beijing Modern, Ultraschall Berlin, the Lucerne Festival, the Gstaad Menuhin Festival, the Pablo Casals Festival in Prades, the Dvorak Festival in Prague. Among the prizes he won:

RITA UEDA

Her orchestral, operatic, and choral works reflect today’s ever-shifting interactions between cultures in flux. With her circle of international collaborators, she strives to be an artist whose “poetic is often very delicate and introspective…” (Guido Barbieri).

Her works have been performed by Vienna RSO with Peter Eötvös, I Solisti del Teatro dalla Scala di Milano, Vienna Chamber Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, Locrian Chamber Players (New York), the Esoterics (Seattle), and the SYC Ensemble Singers (Singapore).

She has been awarded prestigious prizes, such as:

Rita studied composition and sound design at Simon Fraser University and the California Institute of the Arts. Her teachers include Rudolf Komoros, Rodney Sharman, Wadada Leo Smith, Morton Subotnick, David Rosenboom and Barry Truax. She has also studied with James Tenney, Earle Brown, and Lou Harrison.

Andrea Vitello gained an international reputation thanks to his Warner Classics CD with I Solisti della Scala, praised with words such as: “imposing performance” (Enrico Girardi, il Corriere della Sera), “highest standards of intonation and blend” and “beautifully lyrical and detailed” (Remy Franck, Pizzicato), “sharp and accurate” (Angelo Foletto, La Repubblica).

A keen interpreter of the contemporary repertoire, he conducted premiéres by authors such as Peter Eötvös, Tristan Murail, Oliver Schneller, Andrea Portera, Alessio Elia. He achieved twice the “5 stars” award from Musica Magazine for his recordings.

He conducted orchestras such as Budapest Symphony Orchestra MAV, Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, ERT Greek National Radio Television Orchestra, Sofia Philharmonic, Plovdiv Opera, Argento Ensemble in halls such as Carnegie Hall in New York, Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari, Sala Verdi in Milan, Bulgaria Hall in Sofia, Seul Arts Center in Seul etc. Among the soloists he conducted: Andrei Gavrilov, Roberto Prosseda, David Taylor, Filippo Mineccia, Valentina Varriale etc.
